As an artist traveling and sharing my work, I'm often asked...where is Sherman?
To learn and grow from my new community, I’m working to bring us together to create a large-scale abstract map of Sherman, TX.
We will be gathering supplies from the community during November and December at the Sherman Public Library to repurpose for this project. Rich pigments will be harvested from dried out felt tip markers, beauty supplies, and their containers will become beautiful photo frames that will be offered for sale benefiting the friends of the library.
There is a way for everyone to participate in this project! Once the supplies are gathered, follow us on Facebook to see how they will be transformed into the materials for our community creation. Then we will come together to create different layers throughout the early months of 2022. A schedule will be posted on social media and on this page once mailed down. The resulting piece will be sold to benefit the children's charities of Grayson County. If you are interested in donating here's the list:
-Any kind of felt tip markers - dried out is fine; permanent markers too
-Clean Glass containers with tops
-Broken/expired eyeshadows, unused only
-Spray bottles of any shape, size or kind
We will begin collecting items in November, and until then...SPONSORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES ARE AVAILABLE
To contribute financially as a business or individual, check out the options by scrolling down. Additional support will be needed to make this a reality and show the love intended for this project. Your contribution will be visible to the community in our promotional materials and as a special thank you top donors will receive a LIMITED EDITION PRINT of the final piece.
Personal community moment
I don't have family support from 'my side' of the tree...by choice. To end the generational trauma experienced in my household, I had to leave behind the only support system I knew. Now I strive to build a healthy community around my family.
The challenges I faced are more common than most would like to know; it's uncomfortable and hard to share.
After I turned 30 art drew me in and unlocked something that had been inside all along. As I began to understand the puzzle of my own mind and dismantle it, the most beautiful energy was revealed and I want to do everything in my power to give the same opportunity to heal and thrive to others through creating together.
